Wool

This morning I received a phone call from my youngest daugher from school. She has had some difficulty with muscles in her leg since track practices have already begun. I talked with the nurse and we decided it may be best for my daughter to come home, rest her leg, ice it and take some ibuprofen for inflammation. Also use some muscle rub to help with reducing inflammation and pain. Hopefully by tomorrow she will be feeling much, much better. She will need to miss track practices this week until this inflammation and pain has gone away.

After picking my daughter up from school I decided to go to the local wool place near our home. I have been wanting to go there for more raw wool. The samples I have washed.... are beautiful!!! So, I decided that this would be a great place to buy wools I want for my business. I just wish they had some long wools..... such as Lincoln, Shetland, BF Leicester. What they have the most of is medium wools and some fine wools such as Merino/Rambouillet. These are all perfect for what I want to work with. I also found out that they have some colored fleece. So, I picked through these fleeces to find some ligh grey for a felted purse design I have created.

My daughter and I had fun going through the fleece finding the perfect wools for my spinning. We were laughing and having a good time pulling out fleeces and looking at them. One was HUGE!!!! No kidding.... this fleece must weigh atleast 10 lbs. or more. So, I bought that fleece and other wool was just a bit of what I could find that I liked. This fleece should keep me busy for awhile.

I have plans to dye wool this week. I have been washing wool all last week and finally have enough to card and dye. I carded some last week and blended with some dyed wools. Really created a pretty carded batt.... just a bit of lilac color dyed wool with some natural white wool. It is spinning up beautifully. I plan to make a pair of slippers for my oldest daughter with this wool.

I am almost finished with knitting another pair of slippers.... these are for my youngest daughter. I showed off my pair to the woman at the wool place today. She was very impressed that these were made from the top wool I have bought from them. I told her I used Koolaid for dyeing the wool for those slippers. She loved how they looked.... kind of varigated, self striping effect in various shades of pink to burgundy colors.

I also spun more of the dark blue merino wool last night for my cardigan I have begun knitting. I only have about 8 oz. more to spin and then all the yarn is spun for this cardigan. I had hoped to get this cardigan finished before Spring.

Since that local yarn store went of business and cancelled their sale..... I have been so disappointed that I was unable to do a little "stash enhancement" for my spinning and maybe a few new yarns and/or books. Going to this local wool supplier today was just as much fun!!!! And I did not spend as much as I would have at that closing sale. And I can actually create my own colors and types of yarns. I still need some real dyes though.

Well.... time to get off line and soak/wash some of this beautiful wool I bought today. And I also need to check on my daughter to see if the muscle pain is improving or not.

Oh.... I also have an update on the Sockapalooza swap socks. I finished the socks a few weeks ago. Now I wondering if my pal may appreciate a nice, warm pair of these slipper socks instead. She lives somewhere that has cold weather. I know these slippers socks would probably be very appreciated also. Now to decide..... send her socks or slippers socks. I may have to send her an anonymous email to find out which she would prefer. I would love to send her something I have prepared wool, dyed and spun the yarn instead of the socks I made with sock yarn I bought. Decisions, decisions..... I am not sure what I will choose to send.
